Pocket Letters

Another card fold

I hope this finds everyone enjoying life. It has been longer than I thought since I have posted. It is a busy time of the year, especially with a graduate this year. Not sure how that happened already!!!

Anyway, I love trying new folds for my cards, so thought I would share one that I thought was fun. I do not know who originally came up with this one, but I will share how I did it.

This is what it looks like when it is closed and undecorated. You will need to use double sided DSP to enjoy the full effect.

Start with an 8" square piece of double sided DSP. Using the Diagonal score plate, score at 3" on each side. Cut out each triangle that is formed where the scores meet. Remove the diagonal plate and score at 1" down to the notched out triangle. Repeat this for the other three corners.

Decide which side of the DSP will be the inside and fold the inside score lines toward that side. The outside score lines will be folded to the opposite side of the paper.

Starting with the left side, close by folding the left side in, then the top, then the right side, remembering to keep the 1" score folded over.

Now ease the bottom underneath the left side panel. This closes your card. Decorate as desired. I sometimes enclose instructions on how to close it back up. I would close the card to decorate the outside so you won't accidentally glue to the wrong area. OR just create and decorate a sleeve to slip over it (which I prefer to do).

Owl Cards

Now how can you not smile when looking at these! The larger one is a standard sized card and the smaller one is an ATC size. Thanks so much to fellow demonstrator Laura Haffke for the inspiration. She created the standard size and I had to adapt it to the smaller one for my ATC collection and Pocket Letter Pals!

This is how I created them with the smaller size in brackets:

DSP-Back to Black-133700: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"    ( 2 1/2" x 3 1/2")
Whisper White:  same as DSP
                           scored at 1 1/2"    (3/4")

Place glue on the end that you scored and attach to the DSP. This creates a top "fold" card. Set aside to dry.

Eyes: 1 1/4", 3/4", and 1/2" circle punches   (3/4", 1/2", and 3/8")
Beak: I used one point of the star framelits: Second smallest    (smallest)
Wings: Scallop Circle framelit   (scallop circle punch)

Pull out your envelope punch board!!!  Place the top of the card to the top of the board at 1", punch, flip over and do the same. Now place the side to the top at the 1" and punch. This forms the "ears". Use the top of the board to round the bottom corners. (The smaller one takes a little guessing and I created a template from paper first because you want to do the notches at 3/4" AND pulled down from the top of the board about 1/8". Then use the paper snips to round the points on the sides of the "ears".

Glue the eyes together and position on the  card. Also add a white spot to the black spot, which I forgot to do before I took the picture. Glue down to the card. Place the beak on with a dimensional.

Cut the scallop circles in half for the wings. Place a small line of glue along the straight edge of the scallop and attach to the sides of the cards. This allows you to tuck a message into the wing.

NOTE: It is easier, especially on the smaller one, to stamp your sentiment, if you intend to stamp directly onto the card.

Lotus Blossom Notecards

Hopefully you received your FREE Lotus Blossom stamp set during SAB. I made this set of four notecards for a Mother's Day gift.

I started out with a colored base, embossed a white mat with the Spring Flowers embossing folder (#137365). This is in the Occasions catalog and available through June 2, so you might want to purchase it soon, if you haven't already. Remember that our Whisper White cardstock isn't as heavy as the colors, so you may need to dampen it a bit before embossing. I actually use a sheet of wax paper when embossing the white.

I matted my stamped image with the same color as the base. Sponge around all the layers for added interest and adhered them together. Add some ribbon around the layers, then add them to the base. Stamp your initial and punch out with a circle punch before adding it to a scallop circle punch out.

This is a very simple and quick project that packs a lot of punch. Or at least I think so!

Remember, you can always substitute with what you have on hand.

For You Stippled Blossoms

First, I want to thank  Michael Funke for his great inspiration. You can see his version of my CASE HERE. I think his camera and lighting must be much better, because I used most of the same colors.
(Elegant Eggplant and Silver Encore). I will be using the silver more often, now. I really like how it adds to the tone on tone of the Elegant Eggplant.

I did substitute the Perfect Plum with Wisteria Wonder. My sentiment is from the Chalk Talk stamp set. I stamped two of them, punched them out and just overlapped them. The darker rose is on dimensionals and the lighter one is on two stacked dimensionals.
