Nugget Cake

Now that the surprise has been delivered, I can share my latest creation. I saw a picture of something similar and knew that I wanted to try and create one myself, so here is my version!

SUPPLIES:

Cardstock: 4 1/4" circle, 3" circle, 1 3/4" circle
                   1 1/4" x 7 1/4", 1 1/4" x 5 1/4"

Designer Series Paper: (14) 1" x 3"
Chocolate Nuggets (14) [ maybe a few more to snack on while creating :) ]

Start with a 4 1/4" cardstock circle for the base. This can be a solid circle or a decorative cut out like I used in this example. For the first layer, cut a 1 1/4" x 7 1/4" strip from cardstock. Curl it slightly with a bone folder. This will make it easier to manipulate later. Place two strips of sticky strip down the center of this piece and a small piece on one end.

From double sided DSP, cut 14 pieces measuring 1" x 3". Place a piece of sticky strip on the end of each piece. Wrap one piece around each nugget chocolate. (I used one side of the dsp for the 7 bottom layer, then the other side for the 5 middle layer. The two on top are covered with one of each side.)

Beginning at the non-taped end of the cardstock strip, stick the flat side of the seven dsp covered nuggets down the center. Stick the taped end to the back, forming a ring of nuggets. Using Multi-purpose glue, place a small dot on the edge of the cardstock ring, between each nugget. Place this end down onto the large circle. Hold for a bit to let glue set.

For the center layer, cut a 3" circle (plain or decorative). Add beads of glue to the top of the bottom ring as you did for the bottom. Position the circle on top of the ring. Hold in place for a bit to allow glue to dry enough to hold in place.

Repeat the same thing as before for the center ring, using a 1 1/4" x 5 1/4" piece of cardstock and five dsp covered nuggets. Repeat the beads of glue for the bottom of this ring and position on to the medium circle.

The top layer will be on a 1 3/4" circle, attached the same way, to the middle layer of nuggets. Placing sticky strip on the back of one of the two remaining dsp covered nuggets, tape them together. Place a large glue dot on the one end of the duo and attach it to the top circle.

I then wrapped ribbon around the "cake" to give it more stability, and attached a sentiment.

Mini Scrapbook

I am usually a cardmaker, but once in awhile, I see a project that looks like it will be fun to create. That is what happened when I saw Elaine's Jackson's file folder book. Her info can be found HERE . Her project inspired me to create this mini book which measures 3" x 4".

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

12x12 cardstock (color wanted for the album)
8 1/2 x 11 matching card stock
12x12 Designer Series Paper (great way to use up those leftover sheets)
Contrasting color of card stock for closing strip

Cut the 12x12 cardstock into three strips of 4" x 12".
      Score at 3", 6", and 9".
      Fold scores to the center, then back fold the center to create a W shape.
      Run a strip of sticky strip along the bottom and outside edge of the center panel. Press the
               center panels together. (This will form a pocket with the opening towards the top.)
               Repeat for all three strips.
             

On the front panel of one piece, place sticky strip on the top, bottom and along the fold. Making sure that the pockets created on each piece are towards the top, press the back panel of a second piece to this front panel. This will give you a side opening panel. Repeat the same thing for the the back panel and the last piece, creating your book. This will give you top opened pockets and side opened pockets.

To form the cover, cut a 6 1/4" x 4" from the other piece of cardstock. Place sticky tape around the front of the booklet and press one end of the new strip onto the book, lining up the edges. Place sticky strip on the back piece of the booklet. Bend the cover around, line up the edges and press down. The spine will be covered but not taped/glued.

Cut 12 pieces from the DSP, measuring 2 7/8" x 3 7/8". Glue one to each of the inside pages and the front cover. Do NOT cover the back yet. ( I left the inside covers blank so if you want yours covered, you will need two more pieces.)

 

 

 

To create the notches so that we can pull the cards out, I used a 1" circle punch. Mine won't punch through all the layers, so I slipped the narrow piece into the pocket about half way and punched out the notch.

For the other side, line the punch up with the notch you just created.

You now have notches to make it easier to pull out the cards that will be inserted for more pictures or journaling.

The pocket cards are 2 3/8" x 3 3/8", cut from the remainder cardstock. I left mine plain for journaling, but you could stamp on yours or mat them with DSP also. I also rounded the corners on the one end that would be at the outside of the pocket. You could also add ribbons to the ends to pull out.

Now for the closure: You could use a ribbon or belly band, but I chose to use a piece of very thin Velcro. Here is a picture of the product that I used:

From the contrasting cardstock, cut a piece at 3/4" x 3", rounding one end. Place sticky strip on the opposite end of the piece and press onto the back cover.

Place the last piece of DSP onto the back, covering the attached strip. Leaving the Velcro pieces together, place a piece on the rounded end. Remove the remaining protective strip and fold over to the front, pressing it into place. REMEMBER to not pull tightly around so that there is room for the book to expand with pictures and memorabilia.

I hope you enjoyed this project and will give it a try. I would love to hear from you. Change up the DSP, add stamped images and/or embellishments. I would love to see what you come up with. I have several ideas in my head, personalizing each one for the recipient. Mother's Day and Graduation are fast approaching.

Perpetual Calendar

I have found that I really do enjoy creating 3D projects and this is one of them. When I was younger, I created a lot of the gifts that I gave and I am enjoying doing that again. This perpetual calendar was so much fun and I am sure that I will be making some more. I also find that I need 12x12 sheets of cardstock, so will have to put them on my next order. Being a card maker, I haven't needed that size very often, so have always ordered the 8 1/2 x 11 size. Things are a changin'! :)

Now on to the project, which is another great one from fellow demonstrator, Elaine Jackson. You can find her video for this one HERE . She also has the dimensions on her blog. I did add a few changes to mine.

This version used Basic Grey (only cuz it was all I had that was 12"), Blackberry Bliss, and So Saffron cardstock. The DSP is from the Moonlight Paper Stack (133701). For the numbers I used the set that Elaine recommended, Memorable Moments (w-132039 or c-126682). I didn't have a set that would fit the small blocks like I wanted, so, like Elaine, I also printed the days of the week and the months from my computer in dark purple. I used Blackberry Bliss for all of my stamping and to sponge around each piece of So Saffron.

I wanted to add a little bit more, so that is why I created the topper. Cut out two of the Top Note Die (113463), gluing them together onto the top of the carrier. The two larger butterflies are from the wonderful Butterfly thinlits (137360). LOVE this die set!!!! The largest one is adhered down to the top note, but the next two layers are only glued down with the body, to give some dimension. (NOTE: the top butterfly is from a die that I received in a magazine, but there is a solid one with the framelits that would work, too).

The sentiment is from one of my favorite stamp sets, Sheltering Tree (137163). I stamped it, then used a corner rounder for the ends. It is placed on the topper with dimensionals. The butterfly "feelers" are from the set Papillion Potpourri (w-132058 or c-123759). It is inked with Basic Gray, stamped off onto scrap paper, then stamped in place.

As I am typing this, I am thinking "mmmm  haven't added any bling......." . So the actual gift may have some added to it, in the form of pearls, rhinestones, or Dazzling Details. Guess I will have to look at it again.

Undefined Carnation

I sometimes impress myself. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them, but it is still a fun stamp.

I used the Undefined Stamp Carving Kit Refill (134808) to create a carnation with bud stamp. I haven't been able to find exactly what I want so tried one on my own. I will continue to look. :)

I have carved several stamps and have been pleased with most of them. This is a very easy medium to work with. Give it a try by purchasing the Carving Kit (133402) which has everything you need to create your stamp including the carving tools. Then purchase the refill kit as needed which includes all bout the carving tools. I wouldn't be without my kit and refill!
